Challenges are a great way to stay accountable with friends, set new health goals, and join the Zero community.
A variety of Challenges are available for both Basic and Plus members, although there are a few Challenges only accessible to Zero Plus subscribers which are denoted by the "Join Challenge Zero+" label.
To participate, find challenges you're interested in, then start a qualifying fast (or other Challenge criteria) after joining a Challenge and you're all set. See how to keep an eye on your progress.

Challenge types
There are two main types of Challenges: Timed and Rolling.
- A timed Challenge has a start date and an end date, and can only be attempted once.
- A rolling Challenge on the other hand can be joined anytime, and repeated as many times as you like as long as it’s offered.
Finding and joining a Challenge
- Tap 'Explore'
- Tap 'Challenges' at the top of the screen
- You'll be taken to a list of all current Challenges.
- Tap a Challenge you're interested in and review the information which will include the duration of the fast (in timed challenges, when the fast begins and ends will display), a brief description of the fast and its requirements, the number of participants, and any friends you've invited.
- Join the Challenge
- Begin a qualifying fast (or other qualifying Challenge action)
You can join multiple Challenges at a time, so once you've found a Challenge(s) you'd like simply press the "Join Challenge" button.
Viewing your progress during a Challenge
You can view your Challenges progress in a couple of ways:
- Tap the 'Me' tab
- Tap 'Profile'
- Scroll down to 'Challenges'
- Under 'Challenges' you'll see your active, in-progress challenges as well as the days remaining to finish the Challenge
- Tapping each fast individually will show you your percentage completed
Or
- Tap the 'Explore' tab
- Tap 'Challenges'
- Under 'Your Challenges' you'll see your active, in-progress challenges as well as the days remaining to finish the Challenge
- Tapping each fast individually will show you your percentage completed
Ending a Challenge
To manually end a Challenge:
- Tap the Challenge and then click the "End Challenge" button.
- You'll be prompted with a popup asking "Are you sure?"
- Choose either "End Challenge" or "Continue Challenge"
If you choose to end a Challenge it will return to the list of those that are available and you can always rejoin at a later date provided the entry period is still active.
Note: A Challenge that has reached its end date or time period will automatically end itself.
Viewing completed Challenges
- Tap the 'Explore' tab
- Select "See Completed"
Or
- Tap the 'Me' tab
- Tap "Achievements"
- Next to your profile picture and finally "Completed Challenges".
In 'Completed Challenges' you can review summaries of your completed Challenges as well as share the achievement with friends, family, and social media.
Participating in a Challenge with friends
Challenges are a fun way to motivate and support your friends.
To get started:
- Browse the Challenges by visiting the 'Explore' home screen, or on the 'Challenges' screen in 'Explore'.
- When you’ve found the Challenge you’d like to try, first join it yourself
- Next, under 'Challenge Numbers' tap 'Invite Friends'
- When you tap ‘Invite Friends’ you’ll see the option to send an invitation by email, text message, an option to copy the link, and more depending on the device you use.
- If you choose to copy the link, you can share this invitation in online groups, or on your social media accounts.
When a friend receives your invitation, tapping on it will bring them directly into the Challenge.
Once they join you in the Challenge, you’ll see them in your list of friends so you can track each others’ progress and cheer them on.
I left a Challenge. How can I rejoin?
If you or one of your friends leave a Challenge, you’ll need to re-invite each other to see their progress again. You’ll also need to re-invite your friends each time you join a new Challenge, although we’re working on an update to this for a future version of Zero.
What counts toward Challenge progress?
- Progress from qualifying fasts or other challenge criteria (i.e. sleep) is counted as progress toward a Challenge after joining the Challenge and then beginning the qualifying fast or other qualifying challenge criteria.
- Progress is not counted toward a Challenge if a fast or other challenge criteria was already started before joining a Challenge.
-
Joining another Challenge, or multiple Challenges will begin progress when the next fast (or qualifying challenge criteria) starts.
For this reason, we recommend joining a Challenge prior to starting your fast or other criteria.
Disclaimer
Challenges are meant as a fun way to stay motivated and build consistent healthy habits. Always progress at a pace that feels appropriate and healthy for you.
